On average, 20 pedestrians are struck by cars every year in University Circle.
Project Yield is a community-driven pedestrian safety initiative that includes enhanced data collection, increased public awareness, and infrastructure improvements. Using a data-driven approach, UCI has identified safety hot spots most in need of enhancements to protect pedestrians and drivers and to ensure that everyone in the neighborhood is able to reach their destination safely. Be on the lookout for new signage that encourages safe speeds, digital safety messaging, traffic calming, and better traffic light signalization—all in the interest of public safety.
UCI works with partners throughout the neighborhood to improve pedestrian safety including the City of Cleveland. UCI supports the City of Cleveland’s Vision Zero goal to eliminate serious injury and fatal crashes in Cleveland. Vision Zero began in Sweden, which has one of the lowest traffic fatality rates in the world.
UCI’s work helps ensure that our roads permit safe travel for all.

Many road safety improvements are directed by crash data. UCI supports a proactive approach to road safety by prioritizing ongoing feedback from people on our roads. Use the link below to report “close call” road incidents or to let us know where you feel unsafe. Both UCI and the City of Cleveland regularly monitor entries. The data will guide near-term and long-term safety improvements. Submit a close call below.
