Guest Services Representative

The Guest Services department seeks a friendly team member to facilitate an exceptional guest experience by offering great customer service while educating guests, selling admission, promoting membership, working in the retail store, and contributing to a positive team atmosphere at the Cleveland Botanical Garden. We are seeking a team member with a positive can-do attitude that leads to successful team, work superb customer service and wants to do meaningful work in an organization that values diversity of thoughts and perspectives. Position Details:

  • Part-time, permanent, non-exempt position
  • Approximately 25-32 hours per week
  • Training is provided
  • Must have a flexible schedule to be able to work weekends, evenings and some holidays
  • This position is supervised by the Manager Guest Services

Key Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities of the Guest Services Representative include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Holden Forests & Gardens’ mission, values, vision, and core commitment to the visitor experience and community engagement
  • Actively welcome guests and members upon arrival to provide an orientation of the property, programs, and events that support the mission and success of Holden Forests & Gardens
  • Provide friendly, clear, and courteous customer service to encourage return visitation
  • Manage customer concerns, communicate effectively, provide prompt follow-up, and relay information to manager as needed
  • Process sales transactions for admission, membership, programs, and merchandise quickly and accurately
  • Use a computerized cash register and standalone credit card machine with Altru, the organization’s point-of-sale system
  • Complete register opening and closing procedures and reconciliations
  • Assist with maintaining adequate stock levels of merchandise and supplies
  • Contribute positively to a team of guest services staff, seasonal employees, volunteers, and others
  • Regularly assist with event set-up, support special events, and programs
  • Answer guest telephone calls & emails and assist guests with in-person inquiries and respond accordingly
  • Maintain the appearance, cleanliness and safety of public spaces, staff workspaces, and facilities
  • Ensure proper admission policies are being followed
  • Ensure safety practices are being followed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated passion for people and nature
  • High school degree or equivalent, required
  • Retail and cash handling experience, highly desired
  • Customer service experience, highly desired
  • Basic understanding with the use of Microsoft 365 products, specifically Teams, Outlook email and calendar, a plus
  • Must enjoy working with the general public, families and children
  • Effective and appropriate verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work within a team and be self-motivating when working independently
  • Ability to take initiative and problem-solve
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work weekends, some evenings and some holidays
  • Ability to understand basic instructions
  • Must have reliable transportation

Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Stand and/or sit for extended periods of time
  • Effective vision and hearing
  • Hand and arm dexterity
  • Walk and work on wet, uneven, slippery terrain
  • Kneel, bend, stoop, grab, and reach
  • Regular lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds, occasionally 30 pounds
  • Occasional work indoors & outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures
