UNIVERSITY CIRCLE UNITES: A WEEK-LONG CELEBRATION OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.'S LEGACY

Museums and institutions in University Circle will offer special programs, activities, and free admission in honor of Dr. King beginning Saturday, January 13, and running throughout the week.
At the Rink at Wade Oval, proudly sponsored by PNC Bank, University Circle Inc. (UCI) will host free ice skating on MLK Day with reduced pricing and student discounts leading up to Monday. The Rink will be open daily, Friday through Monday, from 1-8 p.m. Skaters can enjoy civil rights films including "42", "Remember the Titans" and "Selma," which will air throughout the weekend.
The Cozad-Bates House, which is the only pre-Civil War home remaining in University Circle, will be open on Monday, January 15, and Saturday, January 20, from 12-4 p.m. A new interpretive center highlights this area’s history as a center of anti-slavery activism and honors those seeking freedom through indoor exhibits and outdoor installations.
On Sunday, January 14, the following University Circle institutions will perform special concerts in celebration of Dr. King:
- The Cleveland Orchestra - Join The Cleveland Orchestra for a free concert commemorating the 60 years since the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. At the concert, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 2024 Service in the Arts Awards will also be presented during the celebration.
- The Music Settlement – Faculty, students, and guest artists will present a concert honoring MLK in their Glick Recital Hall.
The following museums are offering free admission and special programming on Monday, January 15:
- Cleveland History Center - The Cleveland History Center will be open on MLK Day with free admission for all with $3 per ticket for carousel rides and $3 per person for tours of the Hay House.
- Cleveland Museum of Natural History - Connect with Museum scientists, watch wildlife presentations, take part in hands-on activities, and more during their Discovery Day celebration.
- Cleveland Botanical Garden – Explore the glasshouse or wander around outside in the gardens.
- The Cleveland Museum of Art – Enjoy all-day activities at the museum for free in the Ames Family Atrium.
Case Western Reserve University will host its 2024 Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation on Friday, January 19. Each year, Case Western Reserve University honors Martin Luther King, Jr. with a celebration that includes a range of activities including workshops, films, panel discussions and acclaimed speakers. This year's keynote address will be given by media personality and political analyst, Tiffany Cross, in the Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation Ballroom in the Tinkham-Veale University Center.
The Cleveland Public Library Martin L. King, Jr. Branch will celebrate Dr. King with a free performance of music, dance and spoken word from students at Tri-C's Vocal Arts and Dance Mastery Programs on Saturday, January 13.
