Discovered in 1974, Lucy was the oldest and most complete fossil hominin known at that time. Lucy laid the foundation for many future discoveries, both at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and beyond. Over the past 50 years, scientists have uncovered more ancient relatives and clues that offer critical insights into Lucy's evolutionary context and behavior. Join Dr. Emma Finestone, Associate Curator and the Robert J. and Linnet E. Fritz Endowed Chair of Human Origins, as we reflect on the discovery of Lucy, her significance to the study of human origins, and how her legacy at the Museum continues through ongoing research.
