Cleveland Museum of Natural History

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is undergoing a significant transformation, set to be completed in 2024, with the museum remaining open throughout the process. They are expanding and reimagining their campus and exhibits, adding new public spaces, and some... more

On selected Fridays this fall, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will be keeping the lights on until 8pm. Each Friday evening will feature special programming, including Current Science presentations, gallery talks, up-close looks at the Museum's animals, and in-depth conversations with curators and special guests.

On the evening of December 9, join us for the first Friday Night Lights in our new and reimagined spaces! Stop by the new Corning Gallery and see celebrated works of art from our permanent collection: our set of Andy Warhol's 1983 series of screenprints, Endangered Species, and our bound first-edition set of John James Audubon's 19th-century masterpiece, Birds of America. Learn about these works from Museum Librarian & Archivist Joe Tait, who will give a gallery talk on the intersection of art and natural history.

In addition, visit Current Science in the new Fawick Gallery for a chat with Dr. Bort Edwards, Assistant Curator of Environment. Dr. Edwards will discuss how human interference has affected fragile Great Lakes habitats, and how the Museum's herbarium plant collections help us track past changes in plant distribution—and better protect habitats and species threatened by climate change.

You’ll also have the chance to enjoy animal encounters, the Birdly virtual-reality experience, the 3D movie Dinosaurs Alive!, the reimagined Smead Discovery Center—Presented by PNC, and a program in the newly upgraded Nathan and Fannye Shafran Planetarium. The Museum’s new Origins Café will be open.

Beer and wine will be available at a cash bar. Join this week's featured partner, Cleveland Whiskey, for samples and informational conversations over a signature cocktail.

These events are free for members, but advance tickets are required. For nonmembers, normal admission rates apply for Friday-evening events—guests who purchase tickets at any time on Friday are welcome to stay past 5pm at no additional cost.
