Join uGO and University Circle Inc. for Bike to Work Day on Friday, September 28th, 2018!

Bike to Work Day (BTWD) is an event that showcases the community around bike commuting. Participants range from people who bike frequently, to people who bike occasionally and are interested in the experience of biking to work. Wherever you're commuting to and from, BTWD is for everyone!

Whether you're a seasoned biker or a little newer, a common barrier to biking is not knowing how to bike on the road with cars or what to do at intersections. Biking with a group of other people helps build confidence and helps new cyclists learn what to do. We always recommend riding with others when you're first starting out, especially if you've got a long ride ahead of you!

The BTWD community creates an environment where you can ask peers what they usually do when they get to work, how they dress for the ride, what they pack to change into for the work day, if their work has showers, where to find close and secure bike parking, etc. Talk to those around you, and never be afraid to ask questions!

Something most people don’t realize until they bike is how fast getting around on a bike is. Until trying, you might not notice that it only takes 10 minutes to get from the near west side to the stadiums on a bike! Or 35-40 min from Public Square in Downtown to Wade Oval here in University Circle.

Most of all, biking is fun. It’s great exercise, and you're likely to feel the post-workout energy when you arrive somewhere on your bike. Using your bike for transportation yields freedom in transportation - you gain a sense of awareness that your transportation norms aren't binding, and there are tons of ways to get around! In Cleveland, it's easy to feel how the roads are designed to accommodate cars—not people on bikes. To make Cleveland a city that’s comfortable for biking, it’s important that people experience the streets on bikes, scooters, walking etc., so there's more support for street design that accommodates different types of travelers.
