UCI mourns the loss of Jamie Ireland

Posted January 22, 2015 in Press Releases

University Circle Inc. joins Northeast Ohioans in mourning the loss of visionary community leader James D. Ireland III. For two decades Jamie Ireland served as a member of UCI’s Board of Directors where he led the organization as Chairman for seven years. During those years, Jamie worked tirelessly with the Board and staff of UCI to turn University Circle into the premier urban district he envisioned.

Jamie Ireland will always be remembered as an advocate for University Circle, its institutions, and Cleveland. Beyond his work on UCI’s Board, Jamie held leadership positions in organizations throughout the community, including serving as President of the Board of the Cleveland Orchestra for six years. In 2006, he co-chaired the Cuyahoga County Arts and Culture levy which opened up more than $100 million dollars to support community individual artists and arts and cultural organizations over the next decade. Never one to turn down a campaign for the good of the community, Jamie recently signed on as Co-Chair for the 2015 Arts and Culture renewal campaign.

A consummate team player and community leader, Jamie never sought the credit he deserved. He just enjoyed getting things done for his home town. Jamie Ireland will be missed by his friends at UCI, throughout University Circle, and throughout Northeast Ohio

The family will have a public memorial service at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Heights.
