STRAVINSKY Pétrouchka
BEETHOVEN Leonore Overture No. 3
The ballet Pétrouchka made a splash at its 1911 premiere with its folktale plot and Stravinsky’s brilliant music, which foreshadowed innovations the composer would explore further in The Rite of Spring. Music Director Franz Welser-Möst leads this bold and utterly distinct score alongside Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, an ode to freedom taken from his only opera, Fidelio.
This program’s Concert Preview lecture will be presented by Kevin McBrien, Publications Manager, The Cleveland Orchestra.
