Join us at the Cleveland History Center for a special evening featuring the opening of the exhibition "All Dolled Up," curated by Patty Edmonson, WRHS Curator of Costume and Textiles. This exhibition explores the evolution and cultural significance of dolls, offering a rich perspective on their impact on fashion and identity.
Following the exhibition opening, enjoy a private screening of the acclaimed Netflix documentary Black Barbie. Produced by Shondaland and directed by Lagueria Davis, the film highlights the groundbreaking work of three Black women—Beulah Mae Mitchell, Kitty Black Perkins, and Stacey McBride-Irby—who played a crucial role in creating the first Black Barbie in 1980. The documentary examines how Barbie evolved from a singular figure to an inclusive icon, emphasizing the importance of representation in children's toys.
Join us for this inspiring event to celebrate both the exhibition and the documentary, and discover the powerful story of how a simple doll became a symbol of self-expression and imagination. Enjoy the screening along with, treats and mocktails during this special event.
