Join Museum Astronomer Monica Marshall as we celebrate the longest night of the year: the winter solstice. At 10:27pm on Thursday, December 21, winter will officially begin. With the celestial start of the winter season, the Northern Hemisphere will experience 14–16 hours of darkness—an exciting time for stargazers. Learn how you, too, can enjoy a stellar experience when you look to the skies. You’ll discover which of our favorite and most famous celestial objects you can observe as we explore the significance of the longest night of the year.
