Magnolia Clubhouse is a community-based center of psychosocial rehabilitation in University Circle where people who experience mental illness are needed and belong. Through supported employment, education, and advocacy its mission ensures that people who live with mental illness are respected co-workers, neighbors and friends.
Magnolia Clubhouse (est. 2004) is the successor to Cleveland’s Hill House, founded in 1961, a pioneer in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation. Our organization is based on the Clubhouse Model, the foundation of more than 300 Clubhouses worldwide.
The first Clubhouse, Fountain House, was established in New York City in 1948 and remains the largest Clubhouse in the world. Fountain House emerged from the meetings of WANA (We Are Not Alone) that was organized by former patients of a state hospital as a self-help group.
The Clubhouse Model provides people with mental illness opportunities for friendship, employment, housing, education, and access to medical and psychiatric services in a caring and safe environment. Here, members and staff work side-by-side to operate the Clubhouse—the contributions of each member are needed and appreciated.
