Cleveland History Center
Established in 1869, Lake View Cemetery occupies 285 acres of serene settings modeled after the great garden cemeteries of Victorian England and France. Over 102,000 people buried at Lake View, including the 20th President of the United States, James A. Garfield; oil magnate John D. Rockefeller; law enforcement agent Eliot Ness; founder of the Cleveland Orchestra Adella Prentiss Hughes; and Cleveland Indians/New York Yankees great Raymond Johnson Chapman. The cemetery offers history, horticulture and architecture rarely found elsewhere, and is open to the public year round with tours offered through the summer.
