Auxiliary Police Officer

The University Circle Police Department is currently accepting applications for the newly formed position of Auxiliary Police Officer.

Auxiliary Police Officers are civic-minded volunteers who work alongside UCPD officers in their daily functions to benefit the community and assist sworn police officers with tasks that can be handled by trained civilians. UCPD Auxiliary Officers are unarmed, non-commissioned, and work without arrest
powers. Their purpose is to provide another level of safety and service by building community relations. Auxiliary Officers will receive departmental training in various areas related to law enforcement to better serve the public and assist sworn officers. Training, Uniforms, and Equipment will be provided by the department. Auxiliary Officers work shifts in 4-to-6-hour blocks and will have the opportunity to work special events at a paid hourly rate.


Minimum Requirements:

  • No previous or related experience is required.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older, possess a High School Diploma or GED &must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Auxiliary Police Officers must be physically fit, able to stand for several hours at a time, and perform in all weather conditions in outdoor environments.
  • Must be able to volunteer at least 12 hours a month to serve the community and make a minimum two-year commitment to serving in the Auxiliary Unit.
  • Applicants of the University Circle Auxiliary Police Unit must pass a comprehensive background investigation which includes criminal history, credit history, driving record, military service, employment records, and character references.
  • Applicants will be ineligible if they have a felony record or a criminal history involving a crime of violence. If they have any criminal convictions in the past two years. If you are prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a firearm. If you currently have any criminal charges pending against you in any jurisdiction
