The Uptown Business Association (UBA) presents a series of four workshops designed to help small business owners navigate their business finances. Instruction for all workshops provided by the Small Business Administration's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the Hispanic Business Center.
Workshop 1
Basic Accounting for Small Business Owners

This workshop presents a simplified system of recordkeeping that small business owners can use to stay on top of and track their business’ finances. Participants will be introduced to basic accounting concepts, financial statements, recordkeeping checklists, charts of accounts, and business banking. They will also leave with an understanding of how to read and understand balance sheets, income statements, and cash-flow reports.

Financial Management

Basic financial management overview with an emphasis on the importance of the profit & loss statement, calculating the overhead factor, understanding the breakeven analysis and efficient cash flow management. Participants will learn how to budget for profit as the first line of expense in a disciplined planning process.

Introduction to QuickBooks

Once participants have gained an understanding of basic accounting methods and principals, it’s time to put that knowledge to work with QuickBooks accounting software, the industry standard for small business accounting. Participants will learn how to set up your company’s profile in the QuickBooks system, create their chart of accounts, and to navigate the program efficiently. This workshop will provide an overview of important processes, including how to process invoices, make & receive payments, and how to generate the financial statements and other important reports that will help you better manage your business.

Workshop 4
Pricing for Profit

A comprehensive training that focuses on delivering an understanding of how to price your products and services in order to maximize your profits. Business owners will gain a better knowledge in understanding and calculating direct job costs and net profits to be used in the determination of the product or service cost.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
George Pimentel
Mr. Pimentel is an experienced accountant and successful business owner, with more than two decades of working with corporations and small businesses. He is the principal owner of Small Business Accounting Services, LLC, as well as his own real estate investment firm. Mr. Pimentel served as Director of the Small Business Development Center at the Hispanic Business Center for three years, where he assisted hundreds of small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to start or improve the operation of their business. In 2012, Mr. Pimentel left that position to focus on his own businesses, but he continues to work with the Hispanic Business Center on a part time basis as a Certified Business Advisor, where he facilitates classes and workshops, and provides business coaching and counseling.
Eric W. Anderson, Sr.
Eric W. Anderson, Sr. is President of MPG Management, Inc. Eric specializes as an independent management consultant and business coach that develops financial reports, sales plans and operating budgets for small business owners. Eric is a serial entrepreneur and a seasoned sales and marketing pro, spending the past 25 years in this capacity. He holds a BA in Communication from the University of Florida.
