Development Coordinator

Position Overview

This position will play a critical role in implementing strategies that effectively steward, solicit, and engage donors. The Development Coordinator will work closely with and report to the Director of Development and Strategic Initiatives to assist with the management of the Development department’s various lines of contributed income including annual giving, foundation support, special events and any special campaigns

Essential functions:

ANNUAL FUND CAMPAIGN

  • Work closely with Development and Marketing Departments on annual fund solicitation and donor engagement efforts including: writing, proofing, data extraction and list management. Ensure deadlines are met.
  • Tailor approaches according to donor segmentation or individual preferences.
  • Manage sustainer program (monthly/quarterly/yearly giving).
  • Steward current donors through personal/written/phone contact.
  • Create all thank you letters and update every six months.
  • Give donor tours, attend donor meetings and outside events, and cultivate relationships with donors as needed.
  • Track responses to direct mail, online fundraising campaigns and engagement efforts against budget; provide input to Director of Development and Strategic Initiatives on response and analysis of performance.

FOUNDATION SUPPORT

  • Report to Director of Development and Strategic Initiatives on bi-annual basis with actual results compared to goals; provide input on analysis.
  • Help manage the annual calendar of foundation submission dates and reports. Ensure deadlines are kept.
  • Work with outside grant writer to identify opportunities for grant submissions to foundations and gather programmatic information needed for grants.
  • Review grant applications and reports.
  • Prepare grant requests for submission as necessary.
  • Ensures grant compliance for programmatic commitments, financial standards, data accuracy, and legal requirements.

OTHER DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES

  • Collaborate with program and marketing staff to gather client stories, understand individual program needs, and successes; utilize information to inform communications.
  • Attend and assist with annual fundraising events - White Cane Walk and Annual Golf Classic.
  • Create and administer annual donor recognition event.
  • Assist with corporate philanthropy initiatives.
  • Provide assistance with any additional campaigns as needed.
  • Oversee the implementation and ongoing maintenance of individual giving societies.
  • Provide backup for gift processing, reporting, and management of Raisers Edge.
  • Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience collaborating on fundraising activities including annual fund campaigns, donor relations, and grant management with proven results
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing donor communications, events, and engagement plans.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong editing and proofreading.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with precise attention to detail.
  • Financial proficiency and mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Solid problem-solving and sound judgement skills.
  • Successful relationship builder by gaining trust with internal and external stakeholders from all backgrounds.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information and materials, high ethical standards for donor-centered fundraising.
  • Ability to communicate mission to wide range of stakeholders.
  • A large amount of independence and initiative; however, regular collaboration with the Development team, Marketing and Communications team, and other departments within Cleveland Sight Center is essential
  • Proficiency in Windows-based computer software is required.
  • Experience generating queries, reports and exports in a donor database is required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ fundraising experience and annual fund management with proven results is preferred.
  • Raiser’s Edge experience is a plus

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university.

Equipment/Tools Used:

  • Personal computer; software including Word, Excel, Outlook.
