Learn to manage your books and make sense of your financial statements!

University Circle Inc., through the Greater Circle Business Alliance, offers a program for small business owners to learn the basics of managing their business finances. The Financial Essentials for Small Businesses program is the perfect opportunity to get a fresh start on bookkeeping while learning to manage your business finances.  

Program Details

  • Three, 3-hour financial management classes
  • Up to $350 stipend* for expenses by eligible participants (restrictions apply) 
  • 1-on-1 sessions for personal consultation and guidance to create your chart of accounts
  • A deposit of $100 will be held to participate. This deposit will be refunded after full completion of the program. 

 Program Eligibility

  • Business must be located in Cuyahoga County. Preference is given to businesses located in Greater University Circle.
  • Business must be in full operation. This program curriculum is not suited for entrepreneurs in the start-up phase of their business. 
  • Business must have at least 6-months of actual transactions (buying and selling)
  • Business must be willing to use a separate bank account for their business transactions

*- The $350 stipend is available as a reimbursement for the cost of financial management, bookkeeping software, and/or financial services. The business will need to show confirmation of purchase(s) in order to receive the credit. Already existing software is eligible.

Examples of reimbursable expenses:

  • A QuickBooks subscription or software purchase (new or existing) 
  • Current costs associated with bookkeeping, CPA, or business tax services from a verified provider 
  • Wave Accounting subscription services (new or existing) 
  • Merchant fees associated with payment transactions (Stripe, PayPal Merchant, etc.)

About the Instructor

Robbie Terry-Washington has served clients that range in size from start-ups to over 6 Billion in annual revenue. Her prior work experience includes Ernst & Young Audit (including nonprofit audits), Internal Revenue Service Field Agent and various Controllership roles in Corporate America, including traditional and Real Estate Private Equity. She has combined professional work experience of over 25 years. Her branding or specialty is in tax consulting, planning & tax preparation, restructuring operations, re-engineering processes, technical accounting research and application, including revenue recognition, project management and talent development.

In addition, Robbie consults with the SBA, Urban League, Chambers of Commerce (GA/OH), and other community based organizations on financial and tax issues regarding business issues and compliance.

Today, Robbie leads a team of professionals at RTW XXact serving as CEO & Owner. RTW has offices in Cleveland, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia.
