On November 14, 2024, the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum will present ‘Wild Horses: 60 Years of Ford’s Mustang”, celebrating the history of a true American automotive icon. The Mustang is one of only a handful of vehicles that achieved uninterrupted production since the first year they were produced (1964).

From humble beginnings utilizing a Ford Falcon chassis, America’s ‘Pony Car’ took the market by storm, never looking back. The past six decades have witnessed the Mustang’s evolution from a trend-setting, affordable sports car to a high-performance track machine with the help of legends like Carroll Shelby.

Our collective memories are brimming with Mustangs. Steve McQueen’s 1968 Mustang GT from his film ‘Bullitt’, and Nicholas Cage’s 1967 Shelby 500 ‘Eleanor’ burned up the silver screen, along with a first generation car from the James Bond film ‘Goldfinger’. More recently, Ford has entered a Mustang Dark Horse into a NASCAR series, and unwilling to rest on their laurels, they recently introduced the hyper-performance Mustang GTD, a $300.000.00 rocket ship designed to race internationally. Also, somewhat controversially, the all-electric Mustang Mach-E has entered the market for the environmentally-conscious.

The Crawford’s ‘Wild Horses’ exhibit will bring at least two body styles from each period of Mustang development, filling the Upper Gallery with cars that evoke nostalgia, envy, curiosity, and enthusiasm. Help us celebrate this landmark anniversary of one of America’s enduring automotive legends this Fall at the Crawford.
