Artists Archives of the Western Reserve
Founded in 1996 by notable Cleveland sculptor David E. Davis and eight other prominent Ohio artists, including Shirley Aley Campbell and Patricia Zinsmeister Parker, the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve (AAWR) emerged from a shared vision. Recognizing the risk... more
Join the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve (AAWR) in welcoming the return of its Annual Members Exhibition, a show which celebrates the breadth and depth of Northeast Ohio’s artistic talent. This years Exhibition marks the GRAND REOPENING of our renovated gallery spaces!
Celebrating our landmark expansion as the sole occupants of the building built for the Archives and The Sculpture Center by Bernice and David Davis in 1998.
In addition to the 100 artists archived in the museum’s permanent collection, the Artists Archives is comprised of hundreds of member artists who form the backbone of the organization. This yearly exhibition accepts one piece from each active member in any medium including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, assemblage, digital art, fine jewelry and textiles. Now in its 10th year, this will be the first year that the exhibition is held in the three new interconnected gallery spaces within the building that AAWR now solely occupies. While in past years the show’s popularity required that entries were limited to 24 inches in any direction, this year the size limitations have been expanded to include works up to 30 x 40”.
Each piece provides a glimpse into the inner lives of their creators. Viewed as a collective, the works become a mosaic – a whole greater than the sum of its parts which captures the experience of living in our region through the eyes – and hands – of over 100 artists.
Visitors may nominate their favorite work for a People’s Choice Award until the end of the exhibition, when the four artists with the most votes will receive awards and cash prizes.
The show will be celebrated with an in-person opening reception on Friday March 1, 5:30 – 8:00pm. A Closing Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 3rd, 7:00 – 8:00pm following the Annual Meeting, at which time, the winners of the People’s Choice Awards will be announced.
