Job Summary

Responsible for all continuing education (non-degree) programs for youth

and adults as well as community outreach programing. Coordinates community engagement activities in alignment with the college’s mission and strategic goals.

Principal Responsibilities

40% 1. Develops and manages all aspects of continuing education programs throughout the year for students at all levels of development, including classes, teacher workshops, Pre-College, Scholastic Art + Writing Awards Competition, and the Summer Teacher Residency program.

15% 2. Maintains high profile with arts education community by offering in-service courses for teachers and administering the Scholastic Art Awards Competition. Coordinates with Admissions/Enrollment on K-12 school outreach in alignment with the college’s strategic plan and enrollment goals.

15% 3. Collaborates regularly with community partners to exchange ideas and to provide services and educational activities to the community. Serves as institutional liaison for community outreach initiatives, programs, and strategy. Sample partners include but are not limited to: University Circle Inc., NewBridge, Graffiti Heart, Cleveland Arts Education Consortium, Midtown Cleveland, Cleveland Metropolitan School District, College Now, etc.

10% 4. Writes, assembles, designs and oversees the production of four major brochures and several smaller ones during the year.

5% 5. Interviews, hires, manages, supervises, and evaluates continuing education faculty and support staff for all programs.

5% 6. Initiates various grant proposals and follows up on final repots by gathering information on budgets, attendance at continuing education classes, and general program success. Works with Institutional Advancement to identify new funders.

5% 7. Develops and supervises the budget for the continuing education office and for all related programs and activities.

5% 8. Coordinates directly with Facilities, Security, Student Life + Housing, Business Affairs, Admissions/Marketing, Institutional Advancement, Academic Affairs, and Gallery to successfully implement continuing education programs.

Essential Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Knowledge

Requires a broad knowledge of a variety of art disciplines and art education.

Requires knowledge of local demographics, community engagement, and marketing relative to the art community.

Skills

Ability to identify art education needs in the community in general and the professional arts community in particular. Grant writing skills helpful. Ability to develop marketing plans for continuing education programs, targeting a variety of student demographics. Requires general business management and human resource management skills. Requires excellent communication skills, both oral and written. A dedicated and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is essential to advance the institution and strengthen our communities.

Acquisition of Knowledge and Skills

The above knowledge and skills are normally acquired through an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree in a related field (e.g., art/design, arts administration, or art education). Requires 3-5 years’ experience in community engagement (preferably at the local level) as well as at least 2 years of personnel management in a supervisory capacity, preferer ably within an arts education institution/college or cultural institution.

Physical Requirements

Ability to move around the CIA’s offices and to conduct normal business. Ability to access information in various filing systems. Ability to deliver and pick-up materials at off-site locations and ability to attend off-site meetings.

Other Requirements

Due to the nature of the continuing education program, this position requires the ability to work flexible hours on a regular basis.
