Art museum and university team up and University Circle will benefit: editorial

The decision by the Cleveland Museum of Art and Case Western Reserve University to purchase a piece of property jointly to keep it out of the hands of a private developer is smart thinking, even if they haven't decided yet what to do with the land.

The 4.1-acre plot on East Boulevard, now occupied by the Gund Building, is one of the largest properties in University Circle.
It's also in the two institutions' backyards, so it made ample sense for them to work together to gain control of it. They say they won't take possession right away because they want to complete some ongoing construction projects.
