An unusual and unique project found its full fruition Friday in Cleveland Museum of Art's Gartner Auditorium when Chinese master musician Yang Wei and four other virtuosi presented a program of traditional and new Chinese music. It was commissioned by the museum in conjunction with its exhibit, "Chinese Art in an Age of Revolution: Fu Baoshi (1904-1954)." The concert, part of the museum's VIVA! concert series, capped a week of residency for the ensemble, during which they discussed, arranged and rehearsed a range of material that they would ultimately perform in concert. In addition, the musicians traveled to schools and conservatories, bringing their artistry to students in workshops and performances, all of whom, it was reported, were quite simply knocked out by the vibrant and intense music they heard.
