Cleveland's Summer Festivities Start in the Circle with Parade the Circle & Circle Village

Posted June 04, 2012 in Press Releases

CLEVELAND- Tens of thousands will swarm the Circle to start the summer as part of Cleveland’s most anticipated and uniquely spectacular event. Returning for its 23rd year, Parade the Circle and Circle Village will be held on Saturday, June 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. “This event is truly like no other in the region and perhaps anywhere,” says Chris Ronayne, president, University Circle Inc. “Part of what makes University Circle so unique is the serious and groundbreaking innovations that happen inside our global institutions. But we also know how to have fun and put on a party outside on Wade Oval. Parade the Circle and Circle Village start our summer festival season with a big bang.”
University Circle Inc. kicks off the day with Circle Village, offering activities for every age and interest – from creating your own mythical creatures and building unique 3D structures to decorating Frisbees, bags, fans, or yourself with jewelry using pop can pull tabs, puzzle pieces, and other recycled materials. Don’t miss the music in the Village, which includes Revolution Brass Band, Robbing Mary, and a special performance by the Quantico Marine Corps Rock Band. And the Village would not be complete without delicious festival food like boardwalk fries, elephant ears, gelato, fresh squeezed lemonade, gyros, and more. Circle Village has all the entertainment, fun, and fare in one convenient location.
After grabbing a treat and stopping by one our activity tents, don’t miss the Parade that starts at noon and winds around the Oval. As the parade kicks off, University Circle comes alive with color, music, and art for all ages. International and national guest artists join Greater Cleveland artists, families, schools, and community groups in a spectacular display of bright costumes, giant puppets, stilt-dancers, handmade masks, and colorful floats.
The combined events draw an animated, all-encompassing mix of more than 30 museums, schools, churches, and community organizations from University Circle and around the region. They come to educate, entertain, and enjoy one of the most impressive yearly events in Cleveland. And it's easy to find yourself in the Circle, especially if you're coming from the west side. For the third straight year, UCI is partnering with the Gordon Square Arts District to provide round-trip, handicap accessible Lolly the Trolley transportation to and from Circle Village and Party in the Square in Detroit Shoreway. Trolleys will pickup/drop off at East Blvd. and Bellflower every hour between 10:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. and West 65th and Detroit every half-hour between 10:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
