Crowds fill Cleveland Museum of Art on final day of Rembrandt exhibit

They came because it was a holiday and they didn't have to work, because The Cleveland Museum of Art opened on a rare Monday.


They came because it was Cleveland's first-ever exhibit of Rembrandt's paintings.
They came because, like so many of us, it's human nature to wait until the last minute, isn't it?
"I totally procrastinated," said Mike Suster of Cleveland Heights.
"I've been looking at the signs and said, 'I've got to get over there. I've got to get over there.' "
On Sunday night, he stopped talking, went to the museum's website and bought tickets for himself, his wife and two sons.
"I'm trying to turn them into lovers of culture," Suster said of 10-year-old Henry and his 8-year-old brother, Andrew.
Within the hour, it looked as though he'd succeeded.
As the family left the final day of "Rembrandt in America," a special exhibit shown in only two other U.S. cities, Henry was quite sure he could tell the difference between paintings by Rembrandt van Rijn, one of his history's most admired artists, and those who worked under him.
With just hours left to see the 30 works by the Dutch artist and more than 20 others by his studio or followers, art lovers flocked to Cleveland from Akron, Canton and Columbus.
