Learn Future Connections

Future Connections

University Circle Inc’s Future Connections program provides an eight week college and career readiness experience for rising high school seniors.

Future Connections currently partners with over 30 organizations and 12 school districts to provide exceptional summer learning experiences that encourage skill development, career development and personal development.

Up to 70 high-caliber students will be selected following a formal application and competitive interview process. Students engage in project based internships, under the guidance and mentorship of professionals in a variety of career fields, for four weeks in a University Circle institution and four weeks in a Greater Cleveland area business. A series of workshops to build life and personal development skills occur before and at the midpoint of the program. The summer experience is culminated with a recognition ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of the students. Future Connections provides a series of workshops during the participants’ senior year to help them prepare for college.

What do students gain from Future Connections?

In addition to a $1,000 stipend, participants gain confidence, maturity, and self-awareness; have opportunities to network with professionals; learn workplace skills and acquire knowledge that will assist them in their future academic and career pursuits.

Future Connections interns are not working the typical summer job. Students are placed in organizations based on their career interests, are mentored by professionals and are given tasks to help prepare for their future. Our students have opportunities to: take vitals and observe surgeries at hospitals, counsel and teach children in summer camps, research and implement their own science experiments, curate and build models of art exhibits, create presentations for clients and so much more.
