The Free Medical Clinic of Greater Cleveland is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to provide assessment using the CIAI-C assessment tool, direct counseling services to individuals, families and/or groups, as needed. Because the Department has numerous volunteer counselors (including students), as well as lay volunteers, s/he is involved in volunteer support work.

Hours and Rate
Part-time 20 hours/week
Salary commensurate with skills and experience

Main Responsibilities
Direct Service: Provides short-term individual, family and group counseling on an out-patient basis. Responsible for treatment plan development. Maintains therapeutic case records on clients and reports service activity. Provides crisis intervention, case management assistance, and advocates for clients as needed (e.g. referrals to other FC services). Participates in ongoing program development and Quality Improvement activities.

• Support of Volunteers/ Staff Development: Assists in orientation, supervision and/or general support of volunteer therapists and lay crisis intervention volunteers. Monitor all volunteers activity by reviewing and co-signing progress notes in a timely manner. Consults to student interns and volunteer therapists as needed. Provides clinical consultation for department and other FC staff as requested. Designs and presents in-service training sessions for volunteer (and paid) staff development. 

Other Duties: Attends departmental and Free Clinic all-staff meetings. Contributes to departmental and organizational decision-making through active participation in the process. Works effectively and positively with co-workers and volunteers. Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or behavioral health field
• License in Chemical Dependency Treatment or Licensed Social Worker with evidence of scope of practice in chemical dependency
• Five or more years experience in clinical practice and chemical dependency
• Excellent communication and group facilitation skills

Prefered Qualifications
• LICDC, experience working as a volunteer, or with volunteers.
